SI ZENTNER
researched by Music Librarian Christopher Popa
Si Zentner’s music library is now held by the Special Collections department of the University Libraries at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. The items were given to the University’s Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center in 2004 and subsequently transferred to Special Collections.
The music covers the years 1957 to 1996 and consists of 29.6 linear feet of materials, comprised of 74 boxes of scores and parts, as well as some copyright agreements dated 1959-1967.
Besides tunes associated with Zentner’s own orchestra when he recorded for Liberty or RCA Victor (first and foremost, Up a Lazy River), big band classics (such as In the Mood, Eager Beaver, and Back Bay Shuffle), many standards and quite a few originals, his music book also included pop songs of the period (for example, I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love, Michelle, A Man Without Love, Baretta’s Theme, Don’t Sleep in the Subway, Eleanor Rigby, A Sign of the Times, Theme From The Rockford Files, Michelle, etc.).
The University reports that certain numbers are missing from the original book as created by Zentner, and there are some duplicate numbers.
