RE: BLUE BARRON
"My father, Ralph 'Slim' Ruland, played trombone with Sammy Kaye in the first band that Kaye organized in the early 1930s at Ohio University. Harry was playing violin . . . Kaye organized a second band . . . because he had booked several jobs and needed another band to play the second gig . . . I know Red Atkins was the drummer with the Kaye band when my dad was with Kaye and often fronted the second band. I agree that the band no doubt took on its own character fronted by Harry Freidman (who had fronted the band before it became his). . . When I asked my dad who Blue Barron was when he was in the business he said, 'There was no Blue Barron.'"
